Buying Cannabis and Dried Flower in Winnipeg, Manitoba
A brief history of cannabis
Cannabis (which is also known as weed, pot, loose leaf, dry herb, or green) is a psychoactive drug from the Cannabis plant. Originally native to Central and South Asia, the cannabis plant has been used for recreational, medicinal, and spiritual purposes for centuries.
It has been grown since the 3rd millennium and experts believe that it was smoked for psychoactive effects at least 2,500 years ago in the Pamir Mountains. Early in the 20th century, cannabis was subject to legal restrictions and was illegal to possess, use, and cultivate, in most countries.
In Canada, cannabis is now legal for both recreational and medicinal purposes. Cannabis was originally prohibited in 1923 until regulated medical cananbis became legal on July 30, 2001.
Recreational cannabis sales became legal in Canada on October 17, 2018. We were the second country in the world, after Uruguay, to legalize the cultivation, possession, acquisition, and consumption of cannabis and its by-products. Canada was the first G7 and G20 nation to do so.
What are the main cannabinoids in Cannabis?
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol) is the main psychoactive component of cannabis. There are 483 known compounds in the plant, including at least 65 other cannabinoids.
CBD (cannabidiol) is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis; it is derived directly from the hemp plat or manufactured in a laboratory like environment. CBD does not get you high and the has many therapeutic applications.
The 3 main types of cannabis strains.
Indica - Promote relaxing and tranquil effects, they tend to unwind and calm down the mind and body, typically producing more of a “body high” and acting less upon the cerebral aspects. Check out all of our indica flower.
Sativa - Normally produces a more energizing high that can sometimes be productivity-inducing, creativity-inducing, and focus-bringing. Shop all of our sativa dried cannabis.
Hybrid - Contain both indica and sativa genetics which allows them to be both energizing and/or relaxing depending on the specific strain lineage. Try one of our hybrids to experience the best of both worlds.
What are terpenes?
In scientific terms, terpenes are naturally occurring (or synthetic) hydrocarbon molecules. They're found widely throughout the plant world, particularly in conifer trees and citrus fruit.
Here's a simple way of understanding terpenes: they are essential oils secreted by a plant, giving it a distinct character. Basically, terpenes are the building blocks of a plant’s smell and taste.
When you smell the distinct smell of a Christmas tree, for instance, what you are smelling are the terpenes present in pine needles (the terpene pinene, in this case). If you’ve ever walked into a kitchen cleaned with Lemon Pledge or Lysol, you know how powerful and distinctive the smell of limonene can be.
What are the major terpenes?
If you’re buying your cannabis in Canada, you might see some terpene names listed, as more and more licensed producers and cannabis stores are putting that information on labels or on product displays. Here’s what you need to know about the major terpenes:
What are the most common ways to consume Cannabis?
The most common way of using cannabis is to use a herb grinder to break up the dried flower and roll it into a joint using a rolling paper. Many connoisseurs find that adding a filter or rolling tip make the joint easier smoke.
One of the most common methods to smoke cannabis is to buy a ready-to-go joint filled with weed that you may buy at any licensed cannabis store in Manitoba. Almost all Winnipeg Dispensary pre rolls are loaded and rolled by a machine into joints, cones, or blunts. They are expertly rolled and are ready to go. Just light and smoke.
Jupiter Cannabis has curated a Winnipeg's best selection of pre rolls that you may buy in-store or purchase online for same day delivery, click and collect, or have it shipped anywhere in Manitoba.
Bongs and Water Pipes
Water bongs are sturdy and use filtration to remove fine particles from smoke and help deliver cooler and smoother rips. Many bongs also offer percs (percolators) for increased diffusion that condenses and cools the smoke more for monster bong hits. Check out Winnipeg's best selection of bongs. Our most popular style are the beaker bongs.
We recommend using a glass dab rig instead if you consume wax, oils, and shatter, as they are specifically designed enhance terpene flavor from concentrates.
Glass Pipes or "bowls" come in different types and shapes that have distinctive advantages and benefits. Smoking with a glass pipe produces a pure, clean flavour void of any added taste from the pipe itself that is unmatched by any other material. View all our hand held glass smoking pipes.
Dry Herb Vaporizers
A dry herb vaporizer is a device that uses convection or conduction to heat up dry cannabis flowers that are placed in a chamber that creates a vapor which the user inhales. They are most often portable (unlike desktop vaporizers) and easy to use. Take a peak at our dry herb vapes.
Many experts believe that they are one of the most effective ways to consume cannabis because they eliminate the smoke by avoiding combustion and instead evaporate the cannabinoids and terpenes.
A bubbler is a hand-held water pipe that is similar to a bong as they have a mouthpiece, water chamber, down stem, and most often a fixed bowl. The water filters the smoke and removes some of the tar and impurities which enhances the smoking experience. Order a glass bubbler today.
